We’re thrilled to introduce you to the Alberta Veterinary Technologist Association (ABVTA) and the incredible work we do to support Registered Veterinary Technologists (RVTs) across Alberta. Through our partnership with the Digital Human Library, we’re excited to connect with teachers and students to highlight the vital role RVTs play in animal health and wellbeing, and to share the many ways they contribute to our communities.
Who We Are
At the ABVTA, our mission is to empower RVTs through leadership, advocacy, inclusion, and innovation, so that every RVT feels valued and inspired. RVTs are the heart of veterinary medicine, providing skilled care to animals, supporting pet owners, and contributing to the health and wellbeing of our communities.

What We Do
Our work focuses on raising awareness of the vital role of RVTs, providing professional development opportunities, and supporting safe, inclusive, and rewarding workplaces.

Our Digital Human Library Program
As part of Digital Human Library, we offer engaging virtual sessions where students can:
- Learn about the role of an RVT and how they support animal health and welfare.
- Understand the different members of the veterinary team and their responsibilities.
- Discover what happens during a pet’s veterinary visit.
- Explore educational pathways to becoming an RVT and the career options available.
- Discuss the special bond between humans and animals, and how RVTs support it.
- Learn basic pet care tips to keep animals healthy and happy.
Our goal is to inspire students by providing real-world insights and expert guidance, while highlighting the essential role RVTs play in our communities.
