I’ve just returned from a 10 day expedition to the Galapagos and will be sharing my adventures visiting 9 islands aboard the National Geographic Endeavour with Lindblad Expeditions as a Grosvenor Teacher Fellow. I’ll share pictures and videos and talk about natural history and conservation issues on the islands.
Ripley’s Aquarium of Canada: Meet the Zebra Sharks November 8th @ 10:30am EST

Join in as we head behind the scenes at Ripley’s Aquarium of Canada to meet the zebra sharks. We’ll see the use of tactile enrichment to desensitize the animals to handling for medical procedures. Through the use of positive reinforcement in the form of food, the goal is to engage the animals to turn voluntarily onto their backs for blood samples and other tests.

Canada France Hawaii Telescope: French Hangout November 9th @ 1:30pm EST

Join Daniel Devost, the director of science operations at the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope for a french hangout. Daniel will take classrooms into the control room of the telescope to explain how the telescope works and the mysteries of our universe that astronomers are using it to to try and unravel.
Brit is currently based in Wellington, New Zealand as she works towards her PhD in Marine Biology at Victoria University. Her research focuses on New Zealand shark species that are caught as bycatch in the deep-water fisheries. Her images have gained recognition from National Geographic, Getty Images, and Canada’s leading photography magazine.

Canadian star of Survivorman, which debuted in Canada in 2001, he was the first person to produce an internationally broadcast series entirely written, videotaped and hosted alone. Les is fellow of the Royal Canadian Geographical Society and a member of the Explorer’s Club.

In May 2007, Meagan summitted Mount Everest, achieving her goal to climb the Seven Summits – the highest peak on each continent. In January 2010, Meagan completed the first Canadian Solo Ski to the South Pole. Travelling over 1095km in 40 days, she hauled a sled weighing just over 200lbs. Following her polar expedition, Meagan embarked on a 7.5 month journey to the Himalayas, where she attempted to climb 5 great peaks.

Jeffrey Marlow studies microbes that inhabit extreme environments such as volcanic lakes in an effort to understand biology’s outer limits. This research sheds light on the possibility of life on other planets. Here on Earth, Marlow is also studying how to use microbial metabolisms to solve energy and environmental problems.

Leanne is one of Canada’s top 25 female explorers. She’s a conservation filmmaker whose documentaries Being Caribou, Finding Farley and Bear 71 have won multiple awards. In 1998 and 1999 she hiked, skied and canoed for 3,400 kilometres along proposed wildlife corridors from Yellowstone, Wyoming, to Canada’s Yukon. In 2007, she paddled, portaged, and sailed across Canada to meet writer Farley Mowat.
LUNATIC is the story of Ian, who had his first adventure by scaling the shed roof at aged 3. He has subsequently climbed five of the seven summits, cycled 5,000 km solo across Australia and almost died from a fall on the successful expedition to summit Mount Elbrus in Russia. He became the oldest Canadian to ski from the coast of Antarctica to the South Pole, a trek only 300 before him have ever completed.

Ami is a National Geographic Photographer who’s been to over 90 countires. She has lived in mud huts and war zones, contracted malaria, and donned a panda suit—all in keeping with her philosophy of “living the story.” She has beared witness not only to violence and conflict, but also to surreal beauty and to the enduring power of the human spirit.

Holly O’Donnell: My Life in the Amazon November 30th @ 11:00am EST

Holly is a Biologist, Zoologist and Conservationist in the Peruvian Amazon. Leading the Mammal Research for an NGO in remote field sites deep in the rainforest. She often goes for weeks at a time without communication with the outside world. Keeping an eye out for gangs of vicious wild pigs, being careful to avoid picking up flesh-eating diseases and memorable encounters with rare birds and animals are all in a day’s work for a Ross-shire zoologist in South America.
