Polar Bears International

Polar Bears International is the newest meBook expert to join the Digital Human Library. Their mission is to conserve polar bears and the sea ice they depend on. They also work to inspire people to care about the Arctic and its connection to our global climate.

Ready for a virtual field trip? A quick expedition to the Arctic and back—no parka required?

Polar Bears International offers a series of Tundra Connections Webcasts in the fall, winter, and spring to provide you and your students with a passport to visit the arctic tundra and meet the polar bears! PBI connects you with world-renowned scientists and educators, giving you the chance to meet them and ask questions. During the fall polar bear migration, PBI hosts their largest series of webcasts in the fall that include live footage of polar bears on the tundra, as well as video clips and photos that bring the story of the polar bear to life.

PBI also offers programs and projects for students like Project Polar Bear. Project Polar Bear challenges young leaders to develop community projects that reduce the carbon dioxide load in the atmosphere—especially those that engage and sustain community action. Students ages 11-18 can register their team beginning in September, and work on their projects through March 2016. Winners are announces on Earth Day in April 2016.
